Spring is on it’s way. This month we will be learning about the weather, the spring season, and how things will change. This is a great time to learn about this because the trees are still bare and we will still have some snow. Soon we will see little green sprouts and buds. Another theme will be the Wonderful World of Books. Since it is Dr. Seuse’s Birthday this month we will be reading his books and other books and doing art, crafts, and other activities around the books. We will also be doing activities surrounding St. Patrick’s Day with a focus on rainbows, shamrocks, and the color green. Basics we will go over are numbers 1-10; all the colors of the rainbow, review basic shapes; the letters R and S; and going over the concepts of position and direction. As always we will be working on small and large motor coordination, singing, finger plays and other fun activities.

Special Days:

Friday, March 1st: Dr. Seuss Birthday, Hat Day, and Read Across America Day: Wear your favorite hat. Also bring in a favorite Dr. Seuss book to read. If you have the Dr. Seuss book called “The Lorax” please be sure to bring it in. We will be doing activities with the hats and reading as many Dr. Seuss books as possible. This will kick off our Wonderful World of Books theme where we read a Dr. Seuse and other books and do activities around the book.

Sunday, March 10th Daylight Savings: SET CLOCKS FORWARD.

Monday, March 18th St. Patrick’s Day Celebration (Even though St. Patricks day is really on the 17th): Wear Green or get crazy and wear a rainbow of colors (just be sure to have green somewhere). Please bring in a green or rainbow snack to share with friends (green apples, pears, kiwi, celery, jello, colored gold fish, Trix Cereal, green juice, etc.) The day will be centered around the color green and a hunt for the Leprechaun “gold” and “shamrocks”.

Wednesday, March 20th First Day of Spring and Ian’s 3rd birthday: We will be doing spring art, discussing spring, and going on a spring walk.

Things to do together: Take a spring walk and note differences in the trees, grass, etc. Sing songs about spring together (look online there are a lot). Go see the movie “The Lorax” together and read Dr. Seuss books. Show pictures to your child and discuss how they have grown (great subject since we will be talking about how living things grow).
