Spring is on it’s way.

This month we will be learning about the weather, the spring season, and how things will change. This is a great time to learn about this because the trees are still bare and we will still have some snow. Soon we will see little green sprouts and buds. Another theme be learning about is the rain forest (aka: the jungle). We will also be doing activities surrounding St. Patrick’s Day with a focus on rainbows, shamrocks, and the color green. Basics will be more fun ways to graph; the numbers 7 and 17; the letters E, Z, and R; all the colors of the rainbow, pink and gray; and the shapes of the trapezoid and hexagon (review basic shapes for the younger kids). We will be listening to World music (aka folk music) and going over the concepts of position and direction. As always we will be working on small and large motor coordination, singing, reading together, finger plays and other fun activities.

Special Days:

Thursday, March 1st Mystery bag and National Pig Day: Please put something in the brown paper lunch bag I will be sending home on Wednesday for the kids to guess what is inside. On the outside write a clue to help us guess. Also have your child wear something pink (optional).

Friday, March 2nd: Dr. Seuss Birthday, Hat Day, Pajama Day, and Read Across America Day: Wear your favorite hat and pajamas. Also bring in a favorite Dr. Seuss book to read. If you have the Dr. Seuss book called “The Lorax” please be sure to bring it in. We will be doing activities with the hats and reading “Caps for Sale” and as many Dr. Seuss books as possible as we cuddle up with our blankets and pillows.

Sunday, March 11th Daylight Savings: SET CLOCKS FORWARD.

Friday, March 16th St. Patrick’s Day Celebration: Wear Green or get crazy and wear a rainbow of colors (just be sure to have green somewhere). We will be making shamrock cookies on Thursday. Please bring in a green or rainbow snack to share with friends (green apples, pears, kiwi, celery, jello, colored gold fish, Trix Cereal, green juice, etc.) The day will be centered around the color green and a hunt for the Leprechaun “gold” and “shamrocks”.

Monday, March 20th First Day of Spring: We will be doing spring art, discussing spring, and going on a spring walk.

Please help: If you have any jungle toys, pictures, books, magazines, or movies (ex. The Jungle Book) please bring them in to share. I have a few things, but it is fun to share. We will return them at the end of the month or sooner if you only want to share them for a day or few days. Thank you.

Things to do together: Take a spring walk and note differences in the trees, grass, etc. Sing songs about spring together (look online there are a lot). Go see the movie “The Lorax” together and read Dr. Seuss books. Show pictures to your child and discuss how they have grown (great subject since we will be talking about how living things grow).
