Wow! The year went by fast. I hope this is a great year for all of us. Please make sure you send your child with snow boots, snow gloves, and a snow suit when it is snowing or there is snow on the ground. Every day your child needs a jacket. I have extras of everything, but not enough for everyone.

This month we will having a winter wonderland theme and learn about some forest animals, winter sports, fables, fairy tales, rhymes, poems, winter stories, and more fun with ice and snow. Science, math, geography, music, movement, songs, rhymes, finger plays, flannel boards, art, and crafts will be incorporated with our themes. We will also be learning about Martin Luther King (Jan. 16th) and Chinese New Year (Jan. 28th and we will learn about it Jan. 27). We will be listening to classic rock music. The basics we will focus on are the letters I, K, and O; numbers 5 and 15; parallelogram and review square, circle, rectangle, and triangle; the color brown; the concepts of left/right and opposites; how trees grow and ice.

Special Days:

Monday Jan. 9th World Literacy Day: Wear pajamas and bring in your favorite book to share. We will be reading in our pajamas while snuggled up with blankets. “Hot” Chocolate will be served at snack.

Thursday Jan. 19th: Bring in your favorite forest animal (toy or picture) We will be looking up what their animal eats and where it’s homes is in the forest, and then draw and dictate what they learned about their animal while I write what they say below their picture.

Things to do with your child: Play in the snow together or play a game together. Go to the library and pick out books about our themes to read together.

Happy New Year!
